Week #1- Oct 9-16th

Well today is day 1 I had some grapes and bottled water for breakfast, that. was... new! But it was good to get some food. The woman I was in line behind for food was a member of the church and was so nice to me.
I got off the plane and see two elders who helped me find my gate, I took a train to get to it and thought that was really cool! onceIi found my gate I set my bag next to two more elders so I could go get food, there I found 8 more!!! I was so happy to not be alone anymore. I ate mcdonalds and now we are all (15 of us) siting around for 3 hours for our next plane.
The plan was really boring because I wasn't able to watch TV. We got to Peru at 2:30 am and I was so tired.

today I woke up at 6:30 am so I got a ton of sleep, I got my MTC companion, his name is Elder huff, he's different... but my roommate is even more different so l'm thankful for that! But Elder Kughath is the most different one of all he talks a TON in class, bless his heart but it got annoying quick. His companion missed his plane, i think he heard about kughath and decided not to come. lol JK!
Spanish is hard but l'm picking up on it pretty quick, we got Latino missionaries in our room today. Total of 6= so they are helping us! long day on no sleep so l'm going to bed early! They did hair cuts today, you didn't get a say in what it looked like but it was short for everyone, I was okay with that but most guys were not! Personally I look sooooo fly with my new cut!

Today was muy bein, I prayed to Heavenly Father for 30 minutes that I could understand Spanish and learn to love the food better! For breakfast we had french toast with nutella, my prayers were answered!
I then went to class with Elder Huff, we did hours of Spanish study and I am starting to understand it more! Here is like school, notes, tests, (prayers), but instead of 8:30-3:00 it is from 6:00- 9:30 each day. learning of the amazing gospel I have never felt the spirit stronger in my life! In class a teacher said we are not teaching lessons, we are teaching people. This had a big impact on me because i don't need to know each lesson perfectly but through my personality I will convert someone!!!
Speaking of which I am KILLING it out here at meal time I am like the funniest guy. I had 4 ice creams and it not only taste great but I used the "by my 4th one it started tasting funny" and I made a guy poop himself, well he was on lax because the food here either goes really fast through you or the opposite. l'm safe with both for now= i can pray in Spanish now and its amazing I learn 10X more here in 2 days here than I did in 2 years in high school. I love you a ton let me know Mary and how the boys did against seaside ASAP! love you tons goodnight

Today was really good, the classes here are mucho mismo as Senior Marlia. They teach us new words that we have to memorize then the next day they put new words in. only difference is Marlia did about 20 a day and here we do about 120 mas o menos a day and about 10 phrases give or take. Physical activity is really fun we play hand ball and I'm like the best but my companion hit me really hard in the face and so I was upset for awhile.
We have two Hispanic elders in our room and they speak NO English which has helped a ton! we right now= are teaching them English.Tthe other elder the extra different one= had to leave because his companion didn't show up.. blessing. But I liked how he would help us wake up he had a great knowledge of the gospel and obedience. My companion is constipated. Happens to most people. And the food is soooo good I never know what im eating and it looks terrifying but the taste is pretty good! the soups ehhh mas o menos. The elders have begun to pay me for my typing thing! I love it! Lots of love can't wait to email goodnight!!

Today was pretty good I found my #1 fan, he's a Latino elder and whenever I'm close he yells Elder Merritt and I did the first thing i could think of and I point up to the sky and switch hands every time I say AI, SI, SI, SI, SI!! and he laughs so hard so in that Latino group I'm growing to become quite the icon. At "recess" I played hand ball and I jumped in front this elder whose 6' 7 and probably 315 lbs ( by far the best player ) besides me- JK! But he hit me - right in the balls with the ball. Everybody stopped and looked because it could be heard from far. But I walked it off and now I'm the toughest elder here or so the Latinos say. They make me and elder huff (my companion who is built like me) flex about 15 times a night. All the missionaries have been sick with diaherra or constipation except me so im also called iron stomach.
Today was a great day I learned 200 new words and 5 phrases in Spanish along with the other words. TheLatinos love me and Huff when we speak Spanish. I love all that read this letter and I pray for you every day. Please let me know how the Banks boys did I am praying hard for them! Hasta!

Tonight I will just type my testimony.
I realized tonight that I have wasted my days at the ccm (mtc) the long 16 hour days and the extensive learning has drained me of my mental energy and I have used it as a crutch to go to bed early when this should be the time to push myself harder. Tonight we watched a video from Elder Holland from the quorum and it made me feel the spirit stronger than any force I've ever felt, sharper than any thessil, heavier than any weight, harder than any hit I've ever felt, this spirit of god is like a fire that burns in me I feel it I know it! It is deep in the marrow of my bones and courses through my veins. My heart breaks, trembles, I hurt inside and out at the thought of any soul that doesn't have this gospel. Or any of those that see and know the truth of this gospel and turn their backs. I love every child of God, we all have a purpose here and the gospel will help anyone who is lost to find their way. I know that the church of Jesus Christ of Ladder'day saints is the one true church. This mission is the hardest thing I have ever done, and I would not trade or waste a second of it for anything in the world.

It feels like day 26 in the ccm and I have grow very discouraged about the language. Its so hard and it's hard to keep putting new information in. My companion is really good and he speaks to the Latinos really well and I will ask him what he said and he won't tell me or says he doesn't know what he said. He just doesn't want to tell me. But I need to be happy for him and I am, but I'm getting mad not knowing the language and conversations.
Meals have become 101 ways to make the food taste good and stay down. We found the sugar so I've been putting that in my boiled lasagna and it helps! The sugar is sooooo good. But the food has weird sauces and it's also been a struggle. The black licorice rolls are the hard one to crack, we found that butter, microwave, and dipped in milk is the best way to eat them. But I'm lactose intolerant now. When I have dairy I get really sick. I do like it here but the struggles I'm having are really hard. I love you guys!

Well day 75 in the mtc, or so it feels like! Today I laughed harder than ever, and an amazing hand ball game my team went undefeated and the other team had a player take down the net because he ran into it The net is like 300 foot long and 100 feet tall so balls don't go over the fence. It's like a massive net and they are super hard to see and will probably cost a lot of money to replace, but it was so funny! lots more funny encounters today. Elder Maxwell talked only good of me to the older guys so all the 3 week guys like me. p day is tomorrow and I'm so excited to talk to you all! but ccm p-day is really strict here. It is 21 degrees celcius all day every day and always cloudy like London. but its perfect! We have started microwaving any and all food with butter and brown sugar (found the brown sugar) and I played with a snail at outdoor study. I can also buy sodas for 30 cents here! it's awesome I've been here a week and spent 2 dollars! the other 270 I brought will last a while.
